In Bengaluru, BBMP officials have reported a decrease in sewage flow from 120 million litres per day to approximately 8 MLD in the Koramangala stormwater drain after initiating the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. Despite this claim, nearby residents and businesses insist that the foul smell and sewage-mixed water in the drain have not improved. The K-100 project, allocated Rs 175 crore by the government for drain infrastructure redevelopment, spans 9.2 km from KR Market to Bellandur Lake. BBMP aims to finish the project by the end of 2024 and has set up a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant at Kumbaragundi near Kalasipalya to treat and release sewage into the drain. Efforts to prevent sewage entry include installing concrete rings and plants for natural water purification. BWSSB is constructing a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar to further prevent sewage discharge into the drain. BBMP has completed various works such as building retaining walls, ground-level bridges, service roads, pipelines, and decorative features along the drain. The project, initiated in 2021, aims to fully tackle sewage in the Koramangala Rajakaluve. It was supposed to be completed by 2023, but it missed several deadlines thereafter.
